POLICIES
We do not want to overwhelm you with a series of rules, but there are some must-know policies to keep the library comfortable for everyone.
Overview (Must-Know!)
- Upon entering the Library, please set all communication devices to silent alert. Take phone calls outside.
- Mack Library materials may be borrowed by customers with a current BJU ID Card, Alumni Association Membership Card, or Community Customer Card and includes the following:
- Students (BJU programs or BJU Online courses)
- Faculty and Staff
- Alumni
- Community Customers—South Carolina residents eighteen years or older living within 30 miles of campus
- Customers should exercise consideration of others in maintaining a quiet environment for study.
General Policies
- Mack Library exists to support the mission of Bob Jones University in fulfilling the research needs of the faculty/staff and students and therefore the University family has priority over the community customer or out-of-town guest with the usage of resources.
- Covered drinks and light snacks are allowed anywhere in the library. Any strong smelling food or meals that require utensils should be eaten in the vending area.
- Reference books may not be checked out unless for use in class.
Circulation Policies
- Mack Library materials may be borrowed by customers with a current BJU ID Card, Alumni Association Membership Card, or Community Customer Card and includes the following:
- Students (BJU programs or BJU Online courses)
- Faculty and Staff
- Alumni
- Community Customers—South Carolina residents eighteen years or older living within 30 miles of campus
- All customers must have a BJU ID card or community card to borrow materials.
- The customer checking out materials is responsible for returning the items by the date on the date due slip regardless whether the item was given to a friend.
- Students, Faculty and Staff may borrow books thru PASCAL Delivers by clicking on the green PASCAL link on the library catalog for borrowing books from libraries within South Carolina.
- In addition to PASCAL Delivers, there is an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service for the BJU students, Faculty, and Staff for borrowing books, articles, and other materials that we don't have here but that you need for your research.
- Library card-holders must present their ID cards to check out books.
- Reference books and Periodicals are not loaned outside the library. Reference books may be used in the classroom.
Community Borrowers
The Mack Library and the Music Library are open to the public. Special permission or appointments are not necessary. Library cards (with $5 processing fee) are issued to individuals living in Greenville or within a 30-mile radius. Community guests may borrow most library materials.
Fines
A fine of $.25 per day is assessed for each item. Fines on reserve books and special materials (e.g., textbooks) are higher. If you receive an overdue notice for a book you believe you returned, contact the Circulation Supervisor.
All overdue charges for town customers should be paid at the Circulation Desk. Overdue charges for students or graduate assistants are automatically billed to their accounts through the Business Office.
Book Drops
Items are retrieved from the book drops when the library opens. Reserve items may not be returned through the book drops and any customer who returns a Reserve book through a book drop is responsible for the hourly overdue fines accrued before it is retrieved from the book drop. We do back date to the last time the library was open any items that are checked in during opening shift book drop retrieval.
Lost Items
If an item is lost, notify the Circulation Supervisor immediately. If the item is not found in your possession or in the library, a bill will be sent which includes the price of the item, a non-refundable processing fee of $5, and, if applicable, a $5 hardbacking fee. Please pay promptly when you receive the bill. If you or the Library finds the item within a year, you will receive a refund for the price of the item. Billing for lost items takes place three times a year (at the end of each semester and summer school).
